Autobiography in 42 Chapters. What's Wrong with Now?

69

By kallini2010

At this point in the story it does not matter where Don Carlos and Dolores live. The only known fact is that they live in different cities, possibly in different countries.

Setting: Don Carlos is in his study, Dolores is in her bedroom. Both are shown interchangeably or side by side. The sequence of shots is to be determined later.

Don Carlos calls Dolores

- Lola?

- Yes… Carlos…?

- How are you, mi amor?

- Now? At 3 am?

- What’s wrong with now?

- Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Why are you screaming?!!! Oh, geez, I spilt my coffee… (muttering …)

- You told me you need to hear me scream.

- Now?

- What’s wrong with now?

- Do you always take everything so literally?

- No, actually I don’t. Something startled me… There is something in my bed…

- Something or someone?

- Is there a difference?

- Who are you with?

- I am asking myself the same question. Remember that day when you sent me flowers?

- What flowers? I never sent you flowers…

- You never sent me flowers? Who was that Mexican pimp in a ridiculous cheesy sombrero that showed at my doorstep with a bouquet of flowers then?

- What makes you think I have anything to do with pimps? Especially Mexican pimps?

- Well, maybe the fact that the card was from you tipped me off. It was YOUR handwriting.

- I have stopped writing long time ago, before you and I met. I type. But seriously, I have never sent anyone or anything to you. Oh, wait…, was it Halloween, perhaps?

- Yes, and he was asking for candies.

- Was he?

- Of course, not! Don’t be ridiculous! He brought me flowers and then… Since that day, something strange started to happen… sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and there is a man in my bed, young, gorgeous like a Greek God, sound asleep, alive, but I never can wake him up… However, when I wake up in the morning, he is never here. Not a trace with the exception of one thing…

- What? A business card?

- Sort of. No. A bug.

- A bug? Do you realize how you sound?

- I realize how I sound and that is why I don’t tell this story to anyone.

Butterfly on light drugs

- Is it the same man or?

- It is hard to tell… in the morning I have a feeling it was only a dream…

- Can you touch him now?

- Of course, I can touch him now. Now he is real enough.

- Then he is real. What did you do to him? Oh, don’t tell me, why I even asked that question! Where do you meet these people?

- I don’t meet them. I have a suspicion you send them through your Mexican “agent”.

- You are crazy!!! You know what? Real, not real, write your stories and you definitely can have a series on HBO.

- I don’t mind, the trick is to convince HBO. Why don't you?

- That is the reason for my call. Remember, you were working on a script…

- I would not call it a script…

- It does not matter; can you send it to me?

- Now?

- What is wrong with now?

- Besides that it is 3 a.m.? Almost nothing, but I feel dizzy, I am almost asleep, I took the pills…

- Are you on drugs? Again? What pills?

- Writing pills. What do you think? Sleeping pills, I won’t be able to function for at least twelve hours…

- You are impossible! Prima donna! Just send it, I will get back to you tomorrow, no, today… No, wait, have you ever taken his picture?

- Yes, I have all 42 of them.

- Oh…no, not again! Now I feel like screaming. Send me a least one of them, please.

- OK, I will and you have to find that Mexican.

- I swear I have nothing to do with Mexican pimps, drug dealers, or…your bad dreams.

- Too late now, I am falling asleep to have another nightma…. Oh, I forgot to tell you, the man has a gun.

- What?!!!!!

- And then he always shoots me…

- It is not funny.

- Who said I was laughing? Wait…

- Dolores?

Gunshot.

- Dolores? Dolores? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is only one pimp I know that wore a sombrero. He wasn't Mexican, but his name is Don "Magic" Juan. Here is his info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_%22Magic%22_Juan

Is this you Narcissus hub? Did Delores shoot herself or get shot because of it?

Thank you, Sunnie.

I don't know how to respond either. This is the story of Don Carlos & Dolores and maybe other characters if I wish to continue.

But this is only a prologue for the Narcissus story, which has to be worked on.

I am glad you liked it.

Have a good day, too.

No, Augustine, this is not a Narcissus story.

Initially, when I agreed to participate, "The Autobiography" idea was in the air and I only included talking about Narcissus in our dialogue "Why don't you write your autobiography?"

Then I thought that maybe I had nothing to say about Narcissus and I wrote "a pilot" - and because I liked linking everything with everything or maybe I was having slightly too much fun - I started with this part.

The idea was that "The Narcissus Saga" became so popular that HBO wanted to produce it - your saga, not mine. You gave me "HBO" line in case you don't remember.

The dialogue was shorter. Don Carlos calls, send me the script...

But then I thought it did not really fit into the Narcissus stories and I decided to separate the parts. Separation required more writing, it required making a story rather than a scene.

Who shoot whom - I am not going to explain now. Wait until the Narcissus story.

Did you at least like it?

I'm intrigued about the gunshot and Mexican pimp. I wait for the next chapter.

Do you know how rare you are? A Buddhist Russian Tango Dancer who can write mysticism and conjure spells. Who can grace her page with sounds from the border and turn heads with her passion for words. Wait, while I listen to your song again.

Thank you, Mike. I just read another chapter from your "Emerald Wells Cafe" - I guess we were reading each other at the same time.

You have poetry, I have music. I probably have to translate the lyrics, but the words "to finish/to end" and "memories" stand out on their own.

The way I picked it - I just discovered it for this hub - I have a Rumba Theme for Narcissus. This is Rumba. Remember when I said "I was a man today..." I was taking Rumba classes. In my opinion, without the song setting or rather finishing setting the mood, text is not the same. Maybe it starts as a farce, but it is not...

I hope you and others will like my Narcissus because it is not what I have written before. Maybe this dialogue is a good preparation for what is coming.

Funny enough, I cannot come up with a good title.

What can I say?! I loved it and I loved the song too. I actually wasn't wondering what happened after the gunshot. I was thinking about what was happening "now"? - The gunshot and then the scream. Why wonder? I'll find out what happened later, in another "now". And what is wrong with now? Nothing, so I'll go check out the other hubs now and we'll see if I find out what happened to Dolores.

P.S. Thanks, by the way. I haven't been able to read much for some time. This came at the right time to get me back into the swing of things and it fit in perfectly. I've been reading nursery rhymes and short poetry and children's stories until now just to keep my mind active. I've got to say that I'm having fun and won't stop. I'll just add to it... Thank you, Maja. You are right - you should not wonder too much - Dolores cannot die now. She will live longer than me - as long as there are readers to read the story and take it from this point in any direction they want.

Characters have lives of their own. Just so you know, the beginning is "Autobiography in 42 Chapters. The Passion for the Forbidden Dance" and the next chapter "Narcissus and Echo". The links are at the end of the story.

Whether I will be able to continue is debatable, but if I can, I will.

Thank you for reading and your comment.

Dear Svetlana.

I've read all of them and loved it! Especially the story of Narcissus and the butterfly. You must continue!

I think I read in one of your hubs that one should not say "thank you" when something is factual or truthful. I learn a lot from your hubs, by the way. That adds meaning and value to my life. Anyway, even if it's an opinion, it is factual to me. So, please don't thank me. We're past thank you's. You write great hubs! Now, hurry up and write the next one - I just started to read again and I'm eager to find out what happened to Dolores! ;)

Maja, I don't really have any theories about "thank you's", but to me it would feel weird if I stop saying it.

I am glad that you like my work and coming from you, I feel that you are honest, which is the best praise indeed.

What happened to Dolores? Nothing happened to her. She awoke in another reality. "Dolores, mam, it is time to think about employment. Writing is your whim, but you should think about your responsibilities."

I am working on one piece now, but it is not related to Narcissus. I have an idea for him, where he should wake up. Dolores may wake up for a love story. Who knows?

Life is unpredictable.

Then I read it somewhere else but it doesn't matter, you know what I mean. ;)

My theory is that people are in fact predictable, but I'll elaborate on that another time...

Keep well, my friend. :)

No, Maja, it is not what I meant. Yes, I was told that "no thank you" was required for a true statement and I was amazed that you remembered it. And no matter how much I resist accepting it - it is hard for me not to say "Thank you". I don't even know what it means. I mean I don't always know "Thank you for what?"

I guess, if I feel like saying "Thank you", it is the right moment and the other person should accept it without questioning.

On the other hand for the one who does not have any theories about "thank you's", I used to say "It is not a compliment, it is a statement". I often share my observations with the object of such observations - a diagnosis of sorts and people would say "Thank you". I would respond "It is not a compliment, it is a statement".

I guess it might constitute a theory after all.

But you right, it is not the point and it is not important at all. I am glad, though, that you reminded me about it. I should practice it today.

Maybe I should start writing a dialogue for Narcissus - dialogues are not that problematic.

Thank you for this moment of inspiration - it feels good.

Ha! It was you! And, here you made me think I was crazy for some time.

I remember everything of significance that I read. I may not remember it directly afterwards but it pops up again in the right context. ;)

I don't know about your "Thank you" theories but "Thank You" is my name. It seems to be playing an important role in my life lately:

Thank you for being a part of my "thank you". ;)

I like the concept of the name. Names fall in the certain concepts, they sound differently in different languages, but the ideas are similar.

My son's name even though means something different in the original language, sounds to me as "given".

And the first feeling that parents have is awe and gratitude. I think. It was overwhelming.

I will come visit you and read your hub, as soon as I finish my project - I have a deadline and it is only half-done.

Yes, Maja, it is a writing project, which may be the last one. Though I don't want it to be the last, certainly not.

I am not quite sure you will like it - but you will see.

Thank you, "Thank You" Girl!!!

As soon as I finish writing and painting (there is painting for me - Daniel's room), I will visit you. I saw that you were busy writing.

Ciao, ragazza.
