The Art of Faking Questions

"Have you noticed an increase of "fake questions" on HubPages lately?

To ask or not to ask, that is the question.

To answer or not to answer is yet another.

I don't fake; it is a matter of principle. I never thought you can "fake" questions, but let's keep this word for the argument’s sake. I would like to address this topic step by step, methodically and in a slightly insane manner.

First of all, can I ask you, why did you put your question in the category "Gender and Relationships" where it does not seem to belong? Maybe "faking" part has something to do with "Gender and Relationship", but asking and answering questions? It does not seem to be right. But what do I know? I got so confused by now with Q&A on HubPages.

I think questions about questions and their validity come up on HubPages every day. A dozen a day? About fifty? One hundred?

I am answering your question and another question about questions on the same day.

Fake it till you make it!

Well, this seems to be a good advice. My own "Q&A" strategy is not yet developed, but I am optimistic. I am the one slightly different. I don't fit. Big surprise! Men did not want to court me because I was too much. No, I mean boys. That was twenty years ago. Do you think it became any better now? It did in a sense. I have lowered my expectations. But I don't fake it. I learn.

To fake or not to fake? That is the question.

Why do you ask so many questions?

Do you ask a lot of questions in hopes that it will draw attention to your hubs? Or is it to answer questions about life? Or are you trying to write a hub about something and need imput? Or are you just curious?

Asking & answering questions is so controversial here. I find most questions banal, not needing any answer. But those usually get the most feedback.

The reason is simple - you get electronic statistics.

Your questions generated over 100/1000/ 1 million / 1 billion / 1 trillion answers!!!

Of course, (OFF course!) they generated so many answers if all they require is "Yes, Great, I agree!"

"How many times have you been in love?" - Eleven.

You have answered 10/100/ 1000 / 1 million / 1 billion / 1 trillion questions!!!

"Colour black symbolizes power. Thank you."

Then somebody asks too many questions at the same time with the same below par quality.

I usually ask questions at the same time as well, but not more than five at a time. They are not faked. Even though it might seem that I have asked too! many questions - I only asked 31 questions with about 113 answers back. So what do I get back in return? Less than four answers per question.

But my goal is not to gain meaningless statistics, my goal is to gauge interest and see what people say (would say, can say if anything) on a question before I write a hub on my own. Now I came across an opinion that we are not supposed to write hubs on own questions. I don't quite understand why not.

There are questions like this almost every day, questions like this "When you ask a question do you expect an answer?"

No!!! What do you think? Why do you ask? Isn’t it self-evident that I expect an answer?

This question generated 15 answers versus mine 3.5.

But I still cannot find the right footing for Questions and Answers. I know what to ask in order to get meaningless answers, "What is your favourite colour?", but why would I do that?

I just started a forum on this topic, but I would not be surprised if it gets NO attention.

I would love to know why my questions when I really appreciate feedback get no answers.

I had a great question with Zero answer

Can you support the statement "Creativity Plus Unemployment Equals Art?"

This question does not yield an easy answer, but I thought for writers it might give a creative impulse.

Maybe "Q&A" is not about creativity and impulses. It is about generating volume of meaningless words, sounds & statistics.

When you ask a question, do you expect an answer?

I would rather ask you, do you expect an answer?

I often wonder when people ask questions what kinds of answers are expected.

When I ask a question I do expect an answer, but what I usually get are answers that sound like all-encompassing, the truth in its final instance.

With an air of finality! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Most people assume that the person who asks the question does not know the answer or there is one answer that fits all.

I am not clueless, the reason I ask questions is to gauge the interest on a subject and get a range of opinions. I do have an intention to finalize the "Question & Answers" session with a hub of my own. I really like when a question is so good that people are motivated to write a hub rather a short response.

For example "Are men more deluded than women?"

"Yes, they are". Frankly, what is the point of answering like that? Just to get the statistics on how many questions you have asked and how many questions you have answered?

It is a goal, but the point? Point Zero.

That is my resounding Bang! Bang! Bang!

Faking is a waste of time and energy and it sends the wrong message.

I am beginning to think I should stop faking interest in other people's hubs. If I am not interested, I am not. After all, they are not interested in mine.
I am beginning to think I should stop faking interest in other people's hubs. If I am not interested, I am not. After all, they are not interested in mine.

Does it seem like the questions on here make no sense? It does to me! We are all published... writers here.

What do you think about the questions ask lately?

I agree that majority of the questions are really not thought-provoking, but at the same time they get the most attention.

I would not say that they don't make sense, but I don't see any point to ask that kind of questions or answer them.

But I guess it is the price we have to pay for the freedom of speech.

I remember how a friend of mine told me once that in order to get an ounce of gold, you have to go through tons of ore. We were talking about words, ironically enough.

Maybe a rating system would help... or maybe not, the most popular questions would be the same poor popular quality...

Why do some people ask questions that are simply answered by doing a simple internet search?

Like about what spices are used in India, or how many owls their are, or other questions that make me think how hard would it of been for that person to do as I just did an internet search? I don't mind answering questions and doing internet searches for the answer. My point is they have access to the internet as do I. My question is just another silly question like there's is.

I think it takes two to tango. One person asks the question and the other answers. Both by choice. Or at gunpoint?

If you feel like asking stupid questions, go ahead and test your theory, if you have one or simply see the results. Will people respond or not?

I found that most answers are valid. Yes, for creating a dialogue, yes, for acquiring a petty electronic medal...

But what is priceless in those questions & answers...

Things like Robbot -- was it supposed to be a Rabbit or Robot?

Go ahead, look up the origin of either word, that can be a question... Or maybe it was a mix - a mechanical Rabbit, the year of the Rabbit is coming up... (I am just having fun).

Irregardless - another gem - priceless or impricelss? inpriceless? ippriceless?

I don't think we should look down on others, really...

Live and let live, who is perfect anyway?

[Guess What: I was voted down on this one. But I was making fun of those who said that other people were fools yet they could spell not themselves. For the life of theirs. Irregardless]

Why Do I Ask Questions?

It was assumed to I want self-promotion. This could not be more wrong. To find another hubber who is worse at self-promotion you have to search far and wide.

I need opinions.

My first question was funny in a sense. “What makes you write? What is the biggest payoff?”

I got zero answers. The question was poorly phrased; the second part killed the possibility of getting a response. I did not mean earnings; I meant what motivates you to write.

Questions like that surface every day I believe. “What makes you write?” Just like that. I wrote an answer to my own question. It was the only answer. It was a dialogue of me and myself.

Then I started posting questions hoping to get answers, but it was in vain. One answer, two answers, four at the most. Nothing that I was looking or hoping for.

For example, “I have an opportunity…”. It was an assignment in a sense. People were not inspired. Oh, well, what can I do? But I was not faking anything. My topic was valid, my interest was genuine. The lack of feedback? It was understandable. It is hard to build a rapport with strangers over internet when everybody is totally interested in themselves. I cannot win you with my charisma. And I have plenty. It is my opportunity to improve, however.

I have an opportunity...

If only one...

It is truly a Hub

It is a Hub in a sense, not in a sense that it is an article, but in a sense that it is the the heart where I bring my unanswered questions for you to answer. I am pulling the strings together and I am asking you for well-thought answers. Not one liners. I want to create something valuable and beautiful and unpredictable. I haven't written anything yet. I am not guiding you. There is no need for guidance. All you need is your heart and your mind. Connect. Get inspired. If you are not inspired, leave it. I will simply continue talking to myself. Don't worry, there is a medication for that. Which one? Does it work? Is it legal? That is another question.

So here some of my burning questions. Try to think outside the box. Don't read what others have said. Be original. Be you. Yes, you can.

Gauging an Opinion

A Hub is... Look how much light comes through it...if you are willing to explore and open your minds

What has Lady Gaga to do with Faking?

I think she fakes Art and Meaning. She is so good at it. She is spectacular!

I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything
As long as it’s free

I like how it all ends. She fakes it and he dies. I watched it with my seven-year-old son and I said "You see women are to be taken seriously".

His favourite part is the dog, though. I think he said it was a pig. Maybe it was a dog faking to be a pig or a pig faking to be a dog. Maybe a rat. Since it all takes place in madhouse's baths, it is OK. As long as I am not there.

She wants love, she asks for love, she offers him love, yet she fakes. It is apotheosis of faking - what a horrible death!

Maybe faking is not really worth it? For him. For her?

To Fake or not to Fake? The question is still open.

Rah rah ah-ah-ah! Ro mah ro-mah-mah Gaga Ooh-la-la!

Lady Gaga, the ultimate plagiarist. She's even painting a gap between her front teeth so that he can look more like Madonna.

Thank you, Ian, for leaving a comment.

I must confess I am so ignorant about Madonna and Lady Gaga, so I don't know what they are doing, what they sing.

What does Lady Gaga try to fake in the clip: love, mental illness, art, talent? I have no idea, I don't care all that much.

The "faking questions" question got about 15 answers or so I think, speak about faking.

But after I finished writing this hub, I realized that we fake way too much in our lives. We fake "genuine interest", we fake knowledge, we fake relationships.

And I said that I don't because it was a matter of principle. It is time to wake up and look closer... Exactly what principle was that?

...you are definitely the genuine article to me - as I always tell anyone - follow your heart and your mind will always follow ...... and you are the real deal because there's no BS in your writing ......

Thank you, Epigramman! It is my "SIN" being genuine, I did not fake enthusiasm and I think it did cost me my job among other things. Who likes your employees being too bright? But I cannot put out that light, it will go away soon enough. Being docile, unintelligent, uninspired... how on earth can I fake that? How can I blend with environment?

Funny at it is I think "faking" is necessary (the fact that I am so bad at it is not a reason to brag).

So, once again, after having written this, I think that I should write something else and praise people who are good at "faking". Maybe...

You give me pause to think about this Kallini! The question, do you expect people to answer your questions, ha, good one...Continue to be who you are, but then I don't think I need to tell you that...

kallini2010 profile image

kallini2010 Hub Author 14 months ago

Thank you, Fossillady! As simple as the question of faking might be, it is not. I forgot to "fake enthusiasm" at work and got fired. Of course, if I would put it like that nobody would say, yes, that was the reason.

We pretend and then we forget what is real, what is pretence, who we are...

I think that was the reason I got so lost in this world.

But writing helps. After I wrote this hub and presented "my opinion", I started thinking about faking more and more seriously. This is not the first hub that made me think and reevaluate things. Maybe if there is no other outcome than that, it is still worth it.

Thank you for reading and leaving a comment, I appreciate your feedback.

Interesting hub. Asking fake questions don't help anyone in the long run. I know most people are here to make money. No problem with that! But some people also want to learn from others. Asking useful questions is not a selfish act. Thank you for this thoughtful hub.

Thank you 6hotfingers3. I really want to either rewrite this hub or write something more well thought-out. I am pondering the question more and more now. We do fake a lot. Too much for my taste.

Thank you for stopping by and making a comment,

All the best,

Thanks, I freaking hate fake. I can deal with most things, not that. Junior Mafia said it well, "I go no time for fake ones," and what the crap is the point of FAKING anything offstage. Waste of time. Unless you're on a job interview ;-). Good hub idea though!

kallini2010 profile image

kallini2010 Hub Author 13 months ago

Thank you, Ahostagesituaition. When I wrote a hub, I was only thinking about one analogy - faking in intimacy. I don't fake. But I've been told - "What is wrong with you?"

Thank you, Ladies, who fake. Nothing is wrong with me - it is the man who lacks skill and imagination, yet I never have the nerve to say "You are totally clueless!"

But in life, we fake quite a lot. In fact the whole upbringing of children disconnect them from who they are and as adults they forget what they like, dislike, what their inclinations are. Then starts the search "Career Explorations", "Personality Testing" and a lot of people cannot say what they want. It is really sad.

I could not fake enthusiasm at work. I lost it. I mean the job, not enthusiasm. Enthusiasm I never had.

And that is why in one of the comments I said, that only after writing this hub, I started thinking more and more about faking.

"I am happy to meet you." Am I?

"I am looking forward to starting this job." Am I?

You are right, this subject is worth exploring. You can write on this subject, too, if you want.

Thank you for reading and leaving a comment.

All the best and good luck with your writing.

When I asked question it is because I want to know others opinion on the subject or it is because I really don't know the answer and already did a lot of browsing but couldn't get any answer at all. But so far I only give 3 questions. 2 in Question and 1 in the forum I started. one question get 4 answers, second question got none, but I got plenty fun answers at the forum. Maybe we should asking at Forum and not at Question section at all, I don't know. You are really a thinker. This is great well written Hub. Thank for sharing. ^^

Thank you, Freya, for reading and leaving a comment. After being on HubPages for almost five months, I have figured my strategy.

I ask a question when I can come with a good one - some of them get removed, oh, well...

But I hardly have time for forums. I had a few good forums, but I stopped going in that section. I write too much correspondence as it is - I should spend that time on my own writing - something genuine and unique.

And faking ... is not as simple as it seems to be ... we fake feelings ... we display what we don't feel...

It is a choice - it is a choice for me - still hard to hurt other people's feelings - but it achieves nothing. Only backfires. Feelings get hurt anyways ... even more.

..frankly I'm kinda lost ..... what are we faking here?

kallini2010 profile image

kallini2010 Hub Author 12 months ago

We are faking questions. Then feelings. The discourse, not intercourse.

What do you usually fake?

I was let go from my job because I failed faking enthusiasm.

The choices are limitless... like stupidity itself.

The question should be "Why do we fake? Does it make us happier?"

Did you not like rat faking to be a pig or pig faking to be a dog?
